To Our Parents and Guardians, The board
members of the Hillsboro Youth Athletic Association (HYAA) would like to thank all of the parents and guardians for all their
support throughout the years. As you may or may not know, we've been around for nearly a quarter of a century providing
athletic programs for our children, and now we are reaching out to you for your help. There is a lot of work that goes
into this, and we are looking for more volunteers to help lighten the load that the handful of us has been bearing.
On the surface if all looks so simple. Your son or daughter goes to the field or to the gym and puts in a great effort.
After the game is over and we're all done cheering, teams shake hands and go home and we all look forward to the next
one. And this is exactly the way it should look. In reality, there are hours and hours of volunteer efforts that
go into making this happen. It starts before the registration forms have even been sent out to you and ends when all
the uniforms and equipment have been collected, which is just in time for the next sport season to begin and we start
the process all over again. We are looking to expand our board, knowing that more members will mean more help,
fresh ideas and the assurance that the HYAA will be around for years to come to serve the youth of our community.
Recently, we have had some turnover on the board but have been fortunate to have new faces step up. There are several
members whose children have graduated from the program long ago and have continued to put the time in. Some will be
stepping down in the upcoming months, so it is more important than ever for us to reach out to you. For those of you
who have had things to say, we have listened. We have all heard your thoughts, suggestions and constructive (and
not so constructive) criticisms. You are the ones we need now. Come to a board meeting and simply sit and
listen and see what really goes into making this work. If interested then join us and make a difference.
Perhaps you do not have the time to commit to being a board member. We fully understand, and respect that. Another
area that is sorely lacking in volunteers is coaching. Every season we need to beg parents to step up and coach
a team. We ask you now to please consider coaching your son or daughter's team in the future. You don't
need any experience. We will provide all the equipment, training and support to help you succeed. Ask anyone who
coaches now and they will tell you how rewarding it can be. If you are still not sure, try being an assistant coach
to learn the ropes first. Again, we really do appreciate all the support you have been giving us.
We are simply volunteers and are doing this for the children with the hopes of being able to continue to do so for generations
to come. Should you have any interest in joining us, please email us to get the details on when the next meeting is
being held. Thank you, Members of the HYAA
